The highest-volume file type for any remapping business
Stage 1 ECU tuning files are the bread-and-butter of the remapping trade. Calibrated for stock, unmodified vehicles with no hardware prerequisites, meaning virtually any petrol or diesel that comes onto your ramp is a Stage 1 candidate. Maps are optimised across fuelling, boost (where applicable), ignition timing and throttle response to extract the maximum safe power from the standard platform.
Stage 1 tuning files are the most ordered file type on the platform. Any standard petrol or diesel vehicle (car, van or light commercial) is a candidate. If you are looking to build volume as a remapping business, Stage 1 files are where that volume comes from. Search the vehicle, order the file, write it.

Vehicle Search Access the PortalA Stage 1 remap is a software-only modification to the engine control unit. The ECU is read via the OBD port or, on some platforms, by removing and bench-reading the ECU directly. The original file is modified: fuelling tables, boost pressure targets, injection timing and throttle maps are all adjusted within the safe limits of the standard hardware. The modified file is then written back to the ECU. No physical components are changed. The vehicle leaves the ramp looking and sounding completely standard, with power and torque figures meaningfully above the factory calibration. The total time on the ramp is typically 60 to 90 minutes including read, flash and a short road test.
Stage 1 files are available across all major ECU platforms, including Bosch EDC17, Bosch MED17, Continental SID, Delphi DCM, Denso, Marelli, Siemens/Continental VDO and Temic/Getrag gearbox units. Coverage extends to VAG group vehicles (Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda), BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Vauxhall/Opel, Renault, PSA group, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi and many others. If you need to confirm coverage for a specific vehicle before purchasing, use the vehicle search to check the make, model and engine variant.
Turbocharged diesel engines typically show the largest absolute gains from a Stage 1 remap, because the factory calibration leaves significant headroom in boost and fuelling to account for fuel quality variation, altitude and long service intervals. A 2.0-litre diesel producing 150bhp standard will routinely reach 185 to 200bhp on a well-written Stage 1 file. Turbocharged petrol engines also respond well, particularly direct-injection units running higher base boost. Naturally aspirated petrol engines show more modest gains, primarily improved throttle response and a slightly higher rev ceiling, but are still worth calibrating where the customer is looking for a sharper driving experience. Vans and light commercials are strong Stage 1 candidates, particularly for fleet customers where the fuel economy improvement alone justifies the cost.
Log into the ByteFlash Portal at portal.byteflash.co.uk using your trade account credentials. Use the vehicle search to locate the make, model, generation and engine variant. Select Stage 1 from the available file types and place the order. Once payment is confirmed, the file is prepared and delivered to your portal account, typically within a few hours for in-stock vehicles or the following business day for less common platforms. Download the file, load it into your flashing tool and write it to the vehicle. If you do not yet have a trade account, contact us to register.
